Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has discussed his first steps as a footballer, stating how his departure from Real Madrid was a big moment in his career.
The 22-year-old has since gone on to become a fulcrum in the success of Atletico Madrid in recent years, and clearly has a big future ahead of him.
"I experienced a series of bad things, but I believe any 11-year-old could have that happen to them," said Saul in Chelsea nya tröja an interview with Movistar Plus, reflecting on his time at Real's youth academy.
"At the time, people started to talk of atrocities.
"My time at [Real] Madrid was good for me because it made me mature, grow and realise many things.
"Thanks to that, I'm here now."
Unfortunately for Valencia fans, Diego Simeone intervened when Saul was set to join the club on loan in 2014.
"After a year at Rayo, I knew I was coming back, but the next year I was going to join Valencia on loan and it was all agreed," he continued.
"Just before, the coach [Simeone] had seen that I had changed and said that he wanted me to stay."
His worst moment of all came against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, with a serious kidney issue being the problem.
"Against Leverkusen, I lasted 23 minutes on the pitch, but I couldn't give any more," he said.
"After being Juventus Tröjor treated, I had grown tired of the pain from the catheter.
"I told the doctor to remove the kidney, which would remove the pain in one go.
"The idea was taken away from my mind by Mono Burgos, who almost hit me and who told me to use my head - as he had suffered something much worse."
Saul is now one of the key figures in Simeone's team and has even broken into the senior national team.
